We recently shared an invitation on our local community forum, calling on volunteers to join us in showing pride for the place we live and work by coming together for a community litter pick.
Meeting at the Skelmersdale Library at 9am, we set off equipped with litter grabbers at the ready, gloves on, and bin bags ready to make a difference. We were thrilled to be joined by two enthusiastic helpers, It was heartening to know that people will join us and take time out of their own day to help out their community.
Our mission for the day was to collect as much litter as possible from our local parks and surrounding areas, helping ensure these spaces remain safe, clean, and enjoyable for children to play and families to gather just as they’re meant to be!
We’re proud to say that we achieved our goal for the day collecting litter from the local play parks and surrounding areas. What started as a simple clean-up quickly became a huge transformation! There was something satisfying about uncovering forgotten bits of rubbish, especially from the brook or interwined in the woodland, and wondering just how long they'd been there. You could really see how much of a difference our efforts made.
By the end of the morning, we could all see the impact and we definitely felt a sense of pride. It’s amazing what a few people can accomplish in just a couple of hours. We’re already wondering how many bags we’ll fill next time!
It was also lovely to be approached by curious members of the public. We had the chance to share what we were doing and why, and the positive feedback we received was really encouraging. Some even expressed interest in joining us next time—which just goes to show how community spirit can be contagious.
