Hope High School with KS3 and KS4 students, had a large outdoor area that was underused and lacked play equipment. Recognising the potential to create a space that could engage older students, we transformed the area into a dynamic environment that encourages physical activity, social interaction, and fundamental skill development.
The new space is designed to be fun and challenging, offering opportunities for students to build strength, coordination, and confidence while enjoying time outdoors. By combining engaging equipment the area now provides a place where pupils can be active, develop essential skills, and enjoy their break and social time in a stimulating environment
The school’s existing grassed area, enclosed with existing mesh fencing, had great potential but was rarely used. It was locked and completely empty, with no equipment to engage the children. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity, we transformed the space into a dedicated gym area designed to encourage physical fitness, strength, and active play. With the pupils’ ages in mind, the equipment was carefully selected to invite children to get moving and make exercise a fun part of their playtime.
The area now features:
Triple Pull-Up Bars
Arm & Pedal Bike
Rower
Double Slalom Skier
Horse Rider
Double Health Walker
Sky Stepper
Waist Twister
Monkey Bars
Each piece was chosen to challenge the children, help them develop strength, balance, and coordination, and support mental well-being through active, engaging play.
To complement the equipment, we added a post-mounted bench, giving children a place to rest, watch friends, or catch their breath between workouts. A solar powered stopwatch timer adds an extra element of fun, encouraging healthy competition and motivating pupils to push themselves further. Together, these features create a space where children can grow fitter, stronger, and more confident while enjoying every minute of play.
For the main playground, the school wanted just one standout piece of equipment, something that would have maximum impact while engaging children across a range of ages and abilities. We recommended the Triple Cube Climber, a versatile structure that provides 10 different activities in a single space, encouraging balance, coordination, strength, and confidence.
The Triple Cube Climber includes a half height scramble net, slalom beam, swinging log traverse, tyre traverse, traverse wall, balance walk, hanging rope traverse, trapeze walk, crossed ropes, and triple pull-up bars. This single piece of equipment delivers a complete physical challenge, helping children develop core skills that are fundamental to their growth from strength and agility to teamwork and problem-solving all while keeping playtime exciting and adventurous.
