Attention all passengers...New Playground Ready for Landing

curve

Location: The Airport Pub, Manchester

Our proposal for the new playground was to keep the children entertained between takeoffs and landings, we intended for this dynamic space to feature a large-scale plane climbing unit, complete with slides, a pilot area, swinging elements, and rope challenges alongside Robina timber trim trail pieces, including a log bridge, rope climb, and monkey bars for active play. An inclusive roundabout, interactive play panels, and a role-play plane unit with a slide to ensure there’s something for everyone. This playground isn’t just a play area, it’s an experience, making every visit to The Airport Pub even more unforgettable!

The first week on-site has been all about laying the groundwork and our team has made incredible progress! The old timber play unit has been removed, pathways edged out, and precise measurements taken to ensure every piece of equipment fits perfectly. The team has been hard at work digging foundations, positioning timber posts, and securing them in place with post concrete, setting the area for the build ahead. The main foundation frame of the large-scale plane unit is already taking shape, and the small role-play panel is now firmly in place, along with the accessible round-a-bout in ground. With such a strong start, the playground was well on its way for takeoff!...

Now onto the second week, the site has truly come to life as the plane climber took shape! With its large-span wings, climbing ropes, slides, panels, and pilot area now in place as the centerpiece of the playground. The trim trail equipment is also complete, with logs, chains, ropes, and bars creating the perfect challenge for the children. Meanwhile, the interactive play panels and role-play plane unit have been fully assembled, with all the engaging details added for extra imaginative fun and we’ve filled in the area around the accessible roundabout, making sure every inch of this space is ready for inclusive, action-packed play. The transformation was well underway.

With the assembly and build complete, the transformation was already incredible! The bright red climbing plane unit instantly became the standout feature, creating an exciting contrast against the sky making it not just a thrilling play structure, but also the perfect platform spot for plane-watching. The entire playground now feels full of energy and adventure, ready for little pilots to take off into endless fun. It’s amazing to see just how much progress we’ve made in just two weeks, and now it’s time for the final piece of the puzzle, the surfacing!

With the build complete, it was time for the finishing touch which is the surfacing! This final step always feels like the cherry on top of a playground transformation, instantly elevating the space and bringing it all together. The black wet pour surfacing not only gives the area a fresh, polished look, but also provides a safe, sturdy, and flexible foundation for play. Each batch is carefully mixed and rolled out, ensuring a seamless fit around every piece of equipment. And as you can see from the photos... what a transformation!

This project was an exciting and rewarding transformation to be a part of! The previous timber climber, which we had originally bespoke-built, served its purpose well, providing plenty of fun at the time. However, with the Airport Pub being such a popular destination, this new playground needed to accommodate more visitors while also introducing inclusive and accessible play ensuring all children can join in the fun. Our strong relationship with the pub’s owner is built on our reputation for quality, reliability, and outstanding service, making this another fantastic collaboration!

The new playground is now packed with exciting play opportunities, offering a diverse range of activities to engage children of all ages and abilities. At the heart of the space the large-scale plane climber providing a standout feature that encourages active play, adventurous climbing, and imaginative play, complete with slides, pilot controls, swinging elements, and climbing challenges. The trim trail equipment provides a fun way to develop balance, coordination, and strength, while the interactive play panels, including BSL and communication panels, ensure inclusive engagement for all children alongside a playground favourite reactions game panel. The accessible roundabout makes sure that everyone can enjoy the fun, and the small role-play plane unit sparks imaginative storytelling and creative play. With a safe, durable black wet pour surface, the entire area is built for all-weather play, making it a dynamic, engaging, and inclusive space for children to explore, develop, and most importantly have fun!
