This project is a great example of how just two new pieces of play equipment can significantly increase the play value of an existing space.
The area already featured a few pieces of active play equipment, but the school wanted to introduce more opportunities for play while working around the existing layout. We carefully selected the additions to complement what was already there, making the most of the available space without needing a complete overhaul to fit with budgets. The project also included giving the existing boundary some much needed TLC, helping to refresh and improve the overall look and feel of the area.

The addition of our Cube Climber has brought a whole new range of physical challenges to this existing play space. Designed to encourage children to climb, balance, swing and build strength, the climber features pull up bars, half height scramble net, trapeze walk and swinging log traverse all within one compact piece of equipment.
From developing upper body strength on the pull up bars to improving balance and coordination across the trapeze walk and swinging logs, the Cube Climber provides varied opportunities for children to challenge themselves, take manageable risks and develop through active play.
Alongside the new active play equipment, we wanted to introduce an area dedicated to imaginative and creative play. We selected our popular Role Play Shelter, a fantastic foundation piece that gives children the freedom to turn the space into whatever their imagination can create.
Open ended play provides valuable opportunities for children to develop their communication, language, social and emotional skills as they create their own stories and scenarios. It encourages children to work together, share ideas, negotiate roles and solve problems, while also supporting creativity, independence and confidence.
We installed the Role Play Shelter on artificial grass, creating a clean, tidy and clearly defined space around the equipment. The artificial grass also provides a practical, low maintenance surface beneath the shelter, helping to keep this dedicated play area looking smart throughout the year, while complementing the existing grass surrounding it.
This project is a great example of how combining active play with imaginative play can create a more varied and engaging playground, giving children different ways to play, explore and develop.
To complete the project, we also gave the existing boundary a well-deserved refresh, replacing the timber and rope to improve its overall appearance and condition. By working with the existing space and equipment, and combining new active and imaginative play opportunities with a refreshed boundary, we were able to create a more varied, engaging and inviting play environment without the need for a complete redesign.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful additions and improvements can make a big difference to an existing playground, creating more opportunities for children to be active, get creative, socialise, challenge themselves and develop through play.
