Kingsfold Primary School wanted a space where pupils could perform, collaborate, and build confidence outside the classroom. We designed and installed a bespoke amphitheatre seating arrangement, a timber stage, and musical chimes and a set of 5 bongos, all set on artificial grass surfacing.
The centrepiece of the project is a custom-built amphitheatre that provides tiered seating for up to one class. Unlike traditional flat benches, the tiered design ensures every child has a clear line of sight of the stage. The seating is constructed from tanalised timber, pressure treated to withstand all weather. The amphitheatre creates a natural focal point in the playground, encouraging children to gather for performances, storytelling, and discussions. It also gives teachers an additional outdoor classroom for activities such as drama and guided reading.
The stage itself is a raised timber platform, large enough for a small cast performance. What makes this stage interesting is the integrated musical chimes and bongos. A set of 7 Rainbow chimes and a set of 5 Rainbow bongos are mounted at each side of the stage, allowing children to incorporate sound into their performances or simply explore rhythm during break times. This combination supports both structured music lessons and free creative play.
The entire performance area of amphitheatre seating, stage, and surrounding space has been resurfaced with high quality artificial grass. This surfacing provides a consistent safe and cleaner foundation that is in keeping with the natural surrounding environment. It also reduces maintenance compared to natural turf.
