At Belvedere Preparatory School, after speaking to the school on what they want from the area, the idea was to create a space that combined active play with opportunities for role play and imagination. The result is an area where children can climb, balance, and also explore while enjoying pretend play adventures.
Before we transformed the space, it was a large, natural area nestled under mature trees, offering a beautiful setting with plenty of shade. While the tree roots made parts of the site challenging to work with, they also added character and a sense of adventure. We designed the trim trail to weave around the trees, turning them into playful features so children can feel like they’re exploring an exciting trail through the woodland.

To incorporate pretend play alongside active play, we added our timber play train complete with two carriages into the area, all hand-painted by Joel, Great job, Joel! The striking blue, chosen to reflect the school’s colours, looks fantastic in the space. We finished the train with a bespoke sign reading “Belvedere Preparatory Express,” adding an extra special touch. Inside, the children can enjoy a crawl-through tunnel, shelter, seating, and small tables that mimic the feel of a real carriage, sparking imaginative adventures.
